Spectra Awards

2022

This case study showcases my design work rebranding the Spectra range of science activities for Years 1–10, developed by the Australian Science Teachers Association. The project included logo design, layout development and the creation of a cohesive visual system to clearly distinguish science topics.

Process

Laying the Groundwork

The design process began by streamlining the student qualification process and aligning activities with the National Curriculum: Science. To ensure practicality and ease of use, a teacher reviewed the activities from an end-user perspective.

Building a Cohesive Identity

A branding system was developed to represent 45 diverse science topics while catering to a wide range of age groups. This included a new logo featuring a molecule icon, with each circle symbolising a different science topic. Spike the Echidna was completely reimagined, with AI used to replicate the style of a contemporary animated film. After extensive prompting and refinement, the result is a polished, professional design that resonates with young children.

Enhancing the Digital Experience

A new website was launched to sell activity sheets, optimised with analytics, SEO, SEM and social media advertising to drive engagement and conversions.
